约克区宣布二月为华人传统月

2024 年 2 月 22 日 – 约克区议会成员一致批准区议员李乔提出的动议，正式宣布二月为华人传统月。两周前，万锦市议会批准了地区议员 Joe Li 提出的宣布二月为华人传统月的动议。

约克区是大量华人侨民的家园，今天的公告是庆祝华裔加拿大人对该地区、省份和国家的增长和发展做出的巨大贡献的机会。此外，该公告还提供了一个机会，让后代了解华裔加拿大人对约克地区和加拿大的社会、经济、政治和文化结构做出的重大贡献。这是约克地区首次宣布华人传统月，也恰逢农历新年庆祝活动。

York Region proclaims February as Chinese Heritage Month

Newmarket, ON – February 22, 2024 – Members of York Region Council unanimously approved a motion by Regional Councillor Joe Li to officially proclaim February as Chinese Heritage Month. This proclamation comes two weeks after Markham City Council approved a motion by Regional Councillor Joe Li to proclaim February as Chinese Heritage Month.

York Region is home to a large Chinese diaspora and today’s proclamation serves as an opportunity to celebrate the vast contributions Chinese Canadians have made to the growth and development of the region, province and country. Further, the proclamation offers an opportunity to educate future generations about the significant contributions Chinese Canadians have made to the social, economic, political and cultural fabric across York Region and Canada. This is the first time Chinese Heritage Month has been proclaimed in York Region and also coincides with Lunar New Year celebrations.

“I am deeply grateful to my colleagues on York Region Council for their unanimous support of my motion that seeks to honour and celebrate Chinese culture, traditions and people who have contributed to the community,” said Regional Councillor Joe Li. “York Region is home to a beautiful diversity of cultures and we are committed to celebrating all those that make our region a desirable place to establish roots and contribute to the Canadian dream.”
