盛大的开幕式上表演了一系列精彩的节目，包括舞狮、中国功夫表演、中国管弦乐队演奏、张志伟大师的书法、传统舞蹈、原住民歌唱和变脸表演。活动中真正令人难忘的时刻是市长弗兰克·斯卡皮蒂登台进行特别表演，体现了该市对庆祝和尊重中国传统的承诺。

“万锦市很荣幸成为加拿大第一个正式宣布华人传统月的市镇，”万锦市市长弗兰克·史卡皮蒂表示。“通过这一年度庆祝活动，我们可以表彰加拿大华人社区对我们城市乃至其他地区做出的巨大贡献。这证明了我们共同的多元化和包容性价值观，我们很高兴再次将社区聚集在一起，庆祝中华文化的丰富多彩。”

Markham Kicks Off Chinese Heritage Month 2025 with Grand Opening Ceremony

[Markham, Ontario, January 29, 2025] – The City of Markham and York Region proudly kicked off Chinese Heritage Month 2025 with an inspiring Grand Opening Ceremony this afternoon at the Flato Markham Theatre, celebrating the invaluable contributions of the Chinese Canadian community to our cultural fabric. This event marks the start of a month-long series of activities aimed at fostering cultural understanding and community unity.

The grand opening featured a vibrant program of performances, including lion dances, Chinese Kung Fu demonstrations, musical pieces by a Chinese orchestra, calligraphy by Master Jeffrey Cheung, traditional dances, Indigenous singing, and face-changing performances. A truly memorable moment of the event was when Mayor Frank Scarpitti took the stage for a special performance, embodying the City’s commitment to celebrating and honoring Chinese heritage.

“Markham is proud to be the first municipality in Canada to officially proclaim Chinese Heritage Month,” said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This annual celebration allows us to honor the profound contributions of the Chinese Canadian community to our city and beyond. It’s a testament to our shared values of diversity and inclusion, and we are thrilled to once again bring the community together to celebrate the richness of Chinese culture.”

Regional Councillor Joe Li, Chairperson of the Chinese Heritage Month Committee, reflected on the significance of this celebration. “Hosting the first-ever Chinese Heritage Month celebration in Markham this year is incredibly special, as this month is not only about celebrating our cultural heritage but also about educating future generations and fostering connections across all communities.”
